Everyone has a bad habit or two that they don’t know they have.  Some of these little habits can be cute, while others are a little irritating.

You could subconsciously be doing things that could be hurting your relationship.  When you fall in love with someone, you fall blindly; therefore, you don’t see all those little quirks and habits for what they really are.  It’s only after infatuation wears off that you realize those little things truly irritate you.

Bad Habits That Could Potentially Destroy Your Relationship

You cannot change who you are as a person.  But if you know you have bad habits, you might want to change them before it’s too late.

Many people deny their habits instead of accepting and changing them.  Now, not all habits could destroy your relationship, but our Pittsburgh professional matchmakers know there are a few that could potentially break you and your partner apart.

10 Worst Habits That Can Sabotage Your Relationship

If you are doing some of the following habits, you could be pushing your partner away.  Our Pittsburgh professional matchmakers want you to end these bad habits to have a healthy and long-lasting relationship.

1. Taking Your Partner for Granted

You know your partner loves you unconditionally, and you know you love them too.  But do you remember the last time you told them?  Did you remember to thank them when they prepared your favorite meal last week?  Do you say thanks when they prepare your coffee every morning?

You might think it’s silly to say thanks to your partner for everything they do, but if you’re not saying thanks, you’re taking your partner for granted without even realizing it.  You have gotten to a point where you expect those things and no longer appreciate them.  It’s time to turn back the clocks and start giving them the appreciation and recognition they crave and deserve.

2. Pleasing Them Too Much

On the opposite side of the spectrum from the one above, you might go above and beyond to please your partner.  You get angry when your partner doesn’t realize you did something for them, yet you still go out of your way every chance you get.

If your partner has begun taking you for granted, you need to say something about it.  Keeping your anger bottled up will only make things worse.  Our Pittsburgh professional matchmakers want you to communicate and express your feelings.  Stop trying to be a partner-pleaser all the time.  Believe it or not, this could actually drive them away.

3. Testing Them

You act irrational and make big demands just to see how your partner will react.  You are constantly testing your partner’s love for you.  These tests are very common in new relationships when new partners want to test their lover’s interests in them.  Don’t let these little test carry into your seasoned relationship.

4. Playing Blame Games

Don’t blame your partner for something you did wrong.  It’s easy to point the finger at your partner and accuse them of causing harm.  But doing so could corner your partner and have them lashing out at you.

Our Pittsburgh professional matchmakers want you to acknowledge your role when you do something wrong and give your partner emotional support when it is their fault.  You’re supposed to work together and keep each other motivated, not bring each other down.

5. Giving the Silent Treatment

Are you one of those people who ignores their partner instead of talking about the problem at hand?  You’re not alone, many people do this.  But this bad habit can and will sabotage your relationship.  Our Pittsburgh professional matchmakers want you to sit down with your partner and talk about the issues when they come up.  If you choose to ignore your partner, you’re going to end up hurting them because you’re ignoring them and sweeping things under the rug.

6. Having High Expectations

Do you have farytale expectations for your relationship?  If so, don’t expect your partner to be able to fulfill them.  You can’t go into a relationship having too high of expectations.

Remember that two relationships are never alike, so it doesn’t matter if your best friend’s relationship is like a movie and yours isn’t.  Be happy with what you have and stop expecting perfection.

7. Being a Brat

Do you always want things to go your way, whether it’s deciding what TV show to watch, what to eat for dinner, or what do on the weekends?  You can’t expect everything to go your way all the time.  A relationship requires compromise and balance.  There must be equal giving and taking for it to be successful in the long run.

8. Making a Scene in Public

Don’t scream or humiliate your partner in public or when you have company.  You might be angry and have every reason to be, but wait until the two of you are alone before discussing your relationship issues.  Ridiculing your partner and insulting them in front of others will hurt their ego and make them resent you.

9. Getting Irritated Easily

Do you find yourself getting irritated over the smallest things?  Do you take your anger out on your partner when they don’t do something up to your standards?  Instead of snapping and insulting them, sit down and have a discussion with them.  No one likes to be yelled at, especially by their partner.

10. Not Allowing Them to Spend Time with Friends

Do you subconsciously make fun of your partner for spending time with friends, or nag them about a night out with the guys or girls?  If so, you’re dividing them from their friends.  This is pretty common in relationships, but that doesn’t make it okay.  If you want to have a happy and healthy relationship, you must let your partner have time alone.  It allows personal time and space to catch up with friends, family, and do the things that make each of you who you are.

It’s easy to assume these little things aren’t a big deal, but take it from us, they are.  If you continue on with these bad habits, you’ll end up pushing your partner away.  Do you have any other bad habits you feel have ruined relationships in the past?  Share your thoughts and tips with us on our Facebook page.
